Install on Windows
This guide is “a proof of idiot” on purpose. You do not need to disable Windows Security, and you do not need any sketchy tweaks.
Quick reality check (why Windows warns you)
Windows SmartScreen warns when an app is:
- New / not widely downloaded yet
- From a small publisher that’s still building reputation
- Not signed yet (or signed but still “new”)
SmartScreen is doing its job: asking you to confirm you meant to run this installer.
Safety first (read this once)
CoverCraft is safe when you download it from the official link (your purchase email / the official TypeBeatHouse site).
- Only trust the official download: don’t install “repacked” copies from random sites.
- We can provide verification info: if you want, we can share a checksum (hash) for the installer and show you how to compare it.
- Do not disable security: the steps below keep Windows protections on.
Installer
- Download the latest installer (
.exe) from your official link. - Open File Explorer → Downloads.
- Double‑click the installer.
If SmartScreen appears
- Click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- When asked where to install, default is fine for most people.
If you see a “Publisher” name
If the dialog shows a publisher name:
- Good sign: it matches TypeBeatHouse / CoverCraft.
- If it’s blank or different, don’t panic — stop and contact us so we can help verify you downloaded the right file.
After installation
- Open Start Menu.
- Search CoverCraft.
- Launch it.
If Windows asks for permission (UAC prompt), click Yes.
If your org locks down installs
Send this page to whoever manages device policy. We can provide hashes and release artifacts on request.
“Is it safe?” (plain answer)
- If you downloaded CoverCraft from TypeBeatHouse, it’s safe to run.
- SmartScreen warnings are about reputation, not proof that the app is malicious.
- If anything feels off (weird filename, unexpected “extra” installers, browser redirects), stop and message us.
Why you might still see warnings (and what we’re doing about it)
Code signing certificates and store publishing (Microsoft + Apple) cost money and require ongoing identity verification. We’re a small indie team shipping fast.
Our plan is simple and transparent: the first licenses sold help fund the official certificates and programs so CoverCraft installs cleanly (fewer warnings) and can be published through the official Apple and Microsoft channels.
Troubleshooting (fast)
- “Windows protected your PC” keeps showing: use More info → Run anyway (only for the official download).
- Installer won’t run: re-download from your official link; downloads can be corrupted.
- Nothing happens when you double-click: right‑click the installer → Run as administrator.
