Open CoverCraft when macOS says the developer cannot be verified — calm steps, no shame.

Install on macOS

This guide is written for normal humans. You do not need Terminal, you do not need to disable security, and you are not “doing something wrong” if macOS shows a warning.

Quick reality check (why macOS warns you)

macOS Gatekeeper warns when an app is:

  • New / not widely downloaded yet
  • Not notarized yet (common for indie apps early on)
  • Downloaded from the internet and opened for the first time

Gatekeeper is doing its job: asking you to confirm you meant to open this app.

Safety first (read this once)

CoverCraft is safe when you download it from the official link (your purchase email / the official TypeBeatHouse site).

  • Only trust the official download: do not download “repacked” versions from random sites.
  • We can provide verification info: if you want extra peace of mind, we can share a checksum (hash) for the file you downloaded and show you how to compare it.
  • You never need to disable macOS security: the steps below use macOS’ built-in “Open Anyway” flow.

Before you start (30 seconds)

  1. Download the .dmg from your official link.
  2. Open Finder → Downloads.
  3. Make sure the file is a .dmg (disk image).

Install (the normal path)

  1. Double‑click the downloaded .dmg.
  2. A window opens. Drag CoverCraft into the Applications folder.
  3. Eject the disk image:
    • In Finder sidebar, click the Eject icon next to the mounted disk (usually “CoverCraft”).
  4. Open Applications and double‑click CoverCraft.

If macOS blocks the app

You might see: “CoverCraft can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software” or “developer cannot be verified”.

Do this:

  1. Close the warning.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to the Security section.
  4. You should see a message like “CoverCraft was blocked…” with a button Open Anyway.
  5. Click Open Anyway.
  6. Now go back to Applications and open CoverCraft again.
  7. If a second prompt appears, click Open.

That’s it. You did not bypass macOS security — you used the official “I trust this app” confirmation.

Alternative method (right‑click open)

If you don’t see Open Anyway:

  1. Open Finder → Applications.
  2. Right‑click (or Control‑click) CoverCraft.
  3. Choose Open.
  4. Confirm by clicking Open again when prompted.

If you see “CoverCraft is damaged and can’t be opened”

This usually means the download was corrupted or modified by an over‑aggressive download tool.

Do this:

  1. Delete CoverCraft from Applications.
  2. Delete the .dmg from Downloads.
  3. Download again from your official link.
  4. Reinstall using the steps above.

If it still happens, contact us and we’ll help you verify the download.

“Is it safe?” (plain answer)

  • If you downloaded CoverCraft from TypeBeatHouse, it’s safe to open.
  • Gatekeeper warnings are about trust + reputation, not proof that the app is dangerous.
  • If anything feels off (weird filename, unexpected installer behavior, different icon/name), stop and message us before opening.

Why it isn’t notarized yet (and what we’re doing about it)

Apple notarization and signing require paid developer programs and certificate workflows. We’re a small indie team shipping fast.

Our plan is simple and transparent: the first licenses sold help fund the required certificates and programs so we can ship with the smooth “no warnings” experience and publish on the official Apple and Microsoft channels.

Troubleshooting (fast)

  • App won’t open at all: check System Settings → Privacy & Security for the “blocked app” message.
  • You can’t drag to Applications: make sure you opened the .dmg (not a .zip inside it).
  • Still stuck: contact support with a screenshot of the message and your macOS version.
